HRSLPB 50th Birthday
Hornsby RSL Pipe Band celebrated the band's 50th birthday on October 1st 2011 at the Hornsby RSL Club.
The Hornsby RSL Pipe Band was originally formed in 1961 as the Hornsby RSL Youth Club Pipe Band and is now a senior band associated with the Sporting Bodies of Hornsby RSL.
After initially having "pre-loved" kilts of Wallace tartan, we have been wearing the Maclaine of Lochbuie tartan since the mid 1960’s.
The band is active at civic and charitable functions in Hornsby and surrounding districts. April is always our busiest month playing at the Bundanoon is Brigadoon Highland Gathering and the ANZAC Day Parade in Sydney as well as ANZAC commemoration services at Kirribilli and Hornsby (Hornsby 2009 Anzac Day Dawn Service - video)
Among our annual engagements are the Kenthurst Orange Blossom Parade and the Crowle Foundation Fete at Ryde, Relay for Life at Hornsby, the Epping Rangers Soccer Club presentation day and regular performances in the Hornsby Mall.
We also have weekends away such as in the Manning Valley where we performed at the Bonnie Wingham Weekend. and some of our members have attended Pipefest Halifax in 2007 and Japan in 2008.
We also combine with Singleton on Hunter Pipes and Drums for events such as the Aberdeen Highland Games and Toukley Annual Gathering of the Clans.
In 2008 we formed a combined Band - Waratah and Thistle Pipes and Drums which had members of Hornsby, Singleton, Wingham, Canobolas and Scone bands for a trip to Scotland. This was combined sightseeing tour and also a chance to play at various venues including Duart Castle, Stirling Castle, Cullodon, Nethy Bridge Highland Games ( Link - Nethy Bridge massed bands 2008 video).
Also in 2008 we were one of the pipe bands at the Andre Rieu concerts at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
Practice - Wednesday night beginning at 7:30pm at the Hornsby War Memorial Hall next to the RSL Club, learners and experienced players are welcome.
Hornsby is situated about 20km north of the centre of Sydney (NSW), Australia.
